Rescue Dog: Nina

13 Jun

Nina

Nina is a two year old little girl who came to Rescue in desperate condition. She was pregnant, severely underweight and malnourished and suffering from Demodex, an enlarged heart, fleas and worms. Because she was pregnant, she could initially only be treated for her heart condition and parasites, and receive regular baths to soothe her raw, itchy skin. Nina gave birth to six puppies, of mixed breed (the famous Jazz pups) and was too compromised health-wise to properly care for her babies – enter Rescue’s exceedingly dedicated volunteers for round-the-clock care and bottle feeding for all every two hours for four weeks.

Nina recovered from the pregnancy and started her Demodex treatments. She is coming along well and her fur is filling in nicely, though she may have some areas that will not grow fur due to the severity of the damage to the hair follicles. Nina has gained back a good amount of weight…her foster mom is careful to keep her trim and healthy. She will need to be on heart medication for the rest of her life, but with tender loving care she should thrive. All but two of the “Jazz” pups have found their forever homes, and the others are sure to follow soon.

If you are not in a position to adopt, consider sponsoring Nina so Rescue can continue with her care and her story can have a happy ending.
