Success Story: Enid

2 Feb

Enid was taken in by the Pasadena Humane Society as a stray in September 2009. Southern California Bulldog Rescue pulled her from the Pasadena shelter and took her immediately to our vet for a thorough exam. Enid had tumors all over her belly, behind her ear and on her front leg. SCBR’s vet removed the tumors and performed a biopsy, the results of which were the worst news possible. Enid was diagnosed with Mast Cell cancer. Her prognosis was not good and she was given 6 weeks to live. At the time of her surgery, Enid was in Rescue foster care and her foster parents fell head over heels for this spunky girl. She was supposed to be terminally ill but never faltered or slowed. Enid’s foster family decided to adopt this sweet girl and she has been going strong for more than 8 months now. Just goes to show that proper care and a whole lot of love can make a huge difference!

Success Story: Rosebud

2 Feb

Rosebud is a three year old who was surrendered by her owners to Southern California Bulldog Rescue in January 2010.  The family had just acquired a new puppy and decided they no longer wanted her.  While in our care ‘’Rosie’’ had her cleft pallet surgically corrected and was put on a diet to shed unhealthy pounds.

While Rosie was recovering from her surgery, a couple that winter in Palm Springs and summer at their ranch in Canada simply fell in love with her.  Rosie now has her very own seat in her family’s motor home and travels everywhere with her new people.  She turns heads wherever they go and has become best friends with a horse named Bella!

Success Story: Spanky

2 Feb

Spanky was a pitiful-looking dog who was left at the Baldwin Park Shelter, with a major case of Demodex and secondary skin infections. This poor boy was skinny, lonely, and scared. At only a year old, Spanky had had a rough road already, and more was to come. Southern California Bulldog Rescue pulled Spanky from the shelter in July 2009. In our care, he was put on Ivermectin, a drug commonly used for Demodex. The kennel cough he caught at the shelter soon turned into pneumonia. He recovered from these problems only to then show signs of neurological issues. Spanky was then diagnosed with Ivermectin toxicity. Since he could no longer tolerate the Ivermectin, Spanky had to be bathed and dipped in special medication weekly for a month and half. He also developed some inter-digital cysts, which were quite painful. Spanky’s spirit is so bright and good-natured that he never gave up. He always had a tail wag and the sweetest look of love on his face, just thankful for every bit of attention, love, and care that he received. After 3 months, Spanky had made enough progress to be put up for adoption. He was medically stable and had gained 15 pounds. He found a home in Santa Barbara, California, where he has continued to make wonderful progress and has been re-named Max. He loves car rides, walks, and hanging out with his mom and dad.

Piper

Piper is a sweet girl who was abandoned at the shelter on the brink of death. We discovered that she suffers from Irritable Bowel Disease, which is an extremely complicated disease to treat. Piper needs sponsorship to help pay for her medications, supplements, and consultations with doctors & nutritionists. Please consider sponsoring Piper to help her on her way to being healthy and adoptable. Click here to sponsor Piper and other Bulldogs in need.

"When I first saw Jackie, I have to say it was love at first sight and that we were meant to be together. I was so terrified that I would fail as a new mommy to this beautiful girl who did not know how to trust or love. Jackie has become more than a pet to me; she is my companion, my friend and my shadow; some say I saved her life, but I know the reality is that she saved my life too." -Vicki G.
