We Miss You Kenny

27 Feb

Kenny had a hard life wandering the streets as a stray before SCBR found him at the shelter.

He was a special boy with a really big heart that loved his snacks and his warm bed that he would sleep in all day.  He got along with all dogs, cats, and other critter friends.  He was very social and loved to sit near your feet when it was TV time. He also enjoyed his kong in the morning after breakfast and would chew it for hours on end.  His foster mom Kathy bought a red wagon for Kenny so he could roll around the neighborhood even when his arthritis would act up so he could smell the wonderful smells that the outdoors have to offer.  We were glad to have made his stay in rescue a warm and special place where he could call it home.  He now has crossed over to Rainbow Bridge and is able to run and play without the pain and suffering he endured.  We would like to thank everyone that was there for him in his final hours and prayed for him.  He will definitely be missed and more importantly remembered for the wonderful furry boy he was.

150 Bulldogs Surrendered to the Lancaster, CA Animal Shelter

14 Feb

We have been following the very sad story of the “Lancaster Bulldogs” for the past couple week and in fact volunteers have been to the shelter a couple times to inquire about these 150, along with other bulldogs in this same shelter.

Since this has started over two weeks ago, we have only found two dogs that were English Bulldogs and took those two into rescue, naming them Paris and Niki.  One of them was so bad, she required over $1,800 in surgery to have her ear canals removed.  The other female had just finished having a litter (pups with the breeder we presume) and still had stitches in her when we took her in.

The  majority of the Lancaster 150 are proving to be mixed breeds consisting mostly of American Bulldogs, Staffies and other bull type breeds, even many of those are deformed from poor breeding or bad line breeding’s.  So Cal Bulldog Rescue is so full with our English Bulldogs in rescue, regretfully we don’t have the extra space for other breeds at this time.

Our sources with the shelter, tell us the breeder is bringing in dogs over a period of time so not to get fined and this trickle of dogs will continue for a while. There are several all-breed rescues along with us that are carefully watching the developments as this unfolds over  the next weeks.b

If anyone has additional information or timely updates, please let us know.

Thank you!

SCBR Supports Micro-Chipping

2 Feb

Supervising your pet is the most reliable method to ensure it’s safety. For added assurance, we recommend that all pets be micro-chipped.

Most of our rescues go to their new homes already with a microchip with SCBR information but it is your responsibility to register your dog with all of your current information.  Please keep rescue as your number 1 contact and add your family as the 2nd contact.

If you are unsure if your dog has been micro-chipped please visit any local vet or animal shelter and they can scan your dog for free.

Piper

Piper is a sweet girl who was abandoned at the shelter on the brink of death. We discovered that she suffers from Irritable Bowel Disease, which is an extremely complicated disease to treat. Piper needs sponsorship to help pay for her medications, supplements, and consultations with doctors & nutritionists. Please consider sponsoring Piper to help her on her way to being healthy and adoptable. Click here to sponsor Piper and other Bulldogs in need.

"When I first saw Jackie, I have to say it was love at first sight and that we were meant to be together. I was so terrified that I would fail as a new mommy to this beautiful girl who did not know how to trust or love. Jackie has become more than a pet to me; she is my companion, my friend and my shadow; some say I saved her life, but I know the reality is that she saved my life too." -Vicki G.
